QotD: Cinco de Mayo

Comments

I dunno... I (hic) LOVE (hic) St. Patty's Day! :)

Pammy,

Well, I'm one of your northern neighbours.

I think we used Cinco De Mayo as an excuse to plan multi-cultural lessons to satisfy the VP who was stuck doing the diversity report for the state. Hey pinatas can be educational, right?

It's an American tradition to co-opt drinking holidays from the homelands of large immigrant populations (like St. Patty's). It's that one of our mottos? If it's about getting drunk or dead cultural icons it'll make a great addition to the calendar year?

Well my previous comment was truncated and therefore makes absolutely no sense.

What I mean to say was:

Well, I am one of your northern neighbours and I don't really know anything about cinco de maio.

This vox commenting features appears to suck ass and I'm about to give up. I was trying to reference this blog I read today that gives some historical background to the day. Maybe this is why it's a big deal??

Point taken Stella, I don't do the st patty's thing either so I guess I am a bah humbug sort of person

I had a whole to say, but its not worth it. I live in an area that is more like little mexico then anything remotely suppose to be america. So I am a bit jaded on the hispanic point of view. So I am touchy on this particular subject.
Rob, sorry about the comment thing. I am actually thinking of moving to word press but have to research it a little more. IF and when I do, I expect you and Annie to comment on EVERYthing I say hehe. No pressure, right?

Annie, we actually have an accredited course here at our community college devoted to the history and making of the pinata. We used to anyway. I imagine that it was not a big hit with the student body so they canceled it.
