Spring has sprung, well at least according to the school calender. I am officially, well sort of, on spring break. I have one little school related function to attend to today with my winter-guard team - we are making the trek, yet again to Phoenix for a competition.
Funny thing about Phoenicians, they seem to be oblivious to the fact that there are other cities in Arizona. They prefer to think that they whole state, and in some narcissistic minds, the whole world revolves around them. I happen to live in a city in Arizona ( yes Rosa, there are other cities in Arizona) other then Phoenix. My city is about a 3 hour drive SW of Phoenix and for all intents and purposes we are as far removed from Arizona as Vancouver - according to those who reside in Phoenix. Nothing ever occurs here in Yuma, at least not interscholastic related. Other then the odd sports match up and even then the Phoenix high schools whine and winge when they find out that they must travel to Yuma for a game. For the most part, those competitive teams who are in Yuma are forced to drive to Phoenix to take advantage of any events labeled Arizona competition. So off we go yet again. The thing is that Phoenicians are so narcissistic and short sighted that they don't even get the fact that when they place a Yuma team at the bottom of the roster - as is the case today - we will wind up getting back home around 3am tomorrow morning. Oh well, I grew up with it this way and it will remain this way for a time to come, even though we have a high school district here that encompasses 5 high schools now and 3 out laying high schools - 4 of which compete in the 5a division of sports.
Personally I hate Phoenix. Its urban sprawl at its worst, and they are a bit too (as my Kiwi hubby would say) up themselves.
So wish us luck in both the competition as well as the long boring drive to attend it.
Back to spring break. What am I going to do with all that time? I dunno, in my good heart I have loads of things I want to do, in my analytical mind I know that I will get to precious few - if any of those things. We do have the county fair that week and I think I will take my foreign hubby to let him see just how corn pone we can be.
Restless, but hopeful. I am not sure why I call this photo that. It seems to fit my mood and general outlook these days. Hope you enjoy, was about 104 degrees last evening when I took this picture. Unseen by this photo is the cemetery just below that my late husband is buried at. Seems that when I visit the cemetery, which isnt often these days, we have some pretty spectacular sunsets. I wonder.....
